D’Banj plans big for 10-year music anniversary

Multiple award winning singer D’Banj, has revealed that he would celebrate his 10 active years in music with an album, come 2014.

In a chat with PREMIUM TIMES at the Hennessy artistry press parley, D’Banj said,“2014 will be my 10th year of doing active music, because ‘Tongolo’ came out in 2004 and since then I have released hits every year, 2005, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13… chei ! I’m on top of the world; finally, we are getting there.”

D’Banj, the DB Records CEO and G.O.O.D Music artiste, said it has been a busy year so far, with the release of his DB Records compilation album DKM, and preparations for his annual Koko Concert in December.“It’s been a movement, it’s been a journey, touring the whole of Africa, releasing the DKM album, the album launch with 2chains, and releasing more videos from the album.

“Finally” video just came out, and as you can see I’m currently on a road tour with Hennessy. We have performed at different clubs in Lagos and we are set for the finale later this month. Then I’m going on another African tour in Kenya and Zimbabwe before returning home for the festive period. It’s a very busy time for me but I am happy and ready to be working,” he said.

On the rumours that his Koko Concert would be sponsored by businessman, Aliko Dangote, D’Banj said, “Ha! It (had) better be true; Dangote, baba agba. (singing) I’m the god son of Dangote! E ma gba! ”It could be true and it might not be, I can’t say for now. I will be happy if Dangote sponsored Koko Concert. Don’t worry, we would soon announce who the sponsor for this year’s Koko Concert is. Which one is sponsoring, cement or sugar?” he added jokingly.

When asked about his love life, the Koko master joked that he had been waiting for singer, 2face, to get married and now that 2face was married, he would sing another love song and then, maybe, he would marry. D’Banj also spoke about his brother and fellow DB record artiste, Kswitch’s upcoming projects.

“Kswitch’s album has been ready since and I’m happy that one of the songs that is doing well on the DKM album is ‘Obi mo’ by Kswitch. So many videos will be coming out soon and then, everyone would face their individual project. I can tell you Kswitch is hot, o gbona feli feli.”
