The beginning of the school year marks a fresh start – so what better
time than now to give yourself a little makeover? If you’ve been
considering a new haircut, color or makeup palette, now is the time to
do it!
1.) Switch up your part: If you normally part your hair down the middle, switch things up by parting it to the side and vice versa. If you’re feeling daring, create a deep side part and gather your hair into a low side pony at the nape of your neck. Wrap a strand of hair around the elastic and secure with bobby pins. So chic!
2.) Go lighter: Give yourself some natural highlights by squeezing lemon juice into your strands! You can read more about this technique here. Just make sure to use a nourishing hair mask like this one afterwards – your hair will need the extra dose of moisture to recover from any sun damage.
3.) High-brow/Low-brow: You can change your entire look just by switching to a different brow shape. If you normally have gently curved brows, switch things up by penciling in a straighter shape. Here’s a tutoria l I did on three different brow shapes – it’s amazing how different they can make you look!
4.) Go matte: A bright, matte lip was a huge beauty trend this spring that’s extending to fall. Matte lips allow you to get away with wearing bolder lip colors, since bright, shiny lipsticks can often look childish or over-the-top. Don’t have any matte lip colors? No problem! To get the matte lip look, all you have to do is apply your normal lipstick, place a tissue over your lips, and dust over the tissue with loose translucent powder. The powder will seep through the tissue and give your lipstick a matte finish!
5.) Give a little glow: Just because autumn is here doesn’t mean you have to give up your summer glow. Make your own illuminator/highlighter by adding some shimmery eyeshadow (gold works best!) to your foundation or BB Cream – here are more detailed instructions. Blend it above the apples of your cheeks, along the bridge of your nose and across your forehead for a pretty, beach bunny glow.
