Jonathan Will Not Interfere Taraba Impasse

Presindent Jonathan’s stance on the issue has been announced Mr. Ahmed Gulak, the Special Adviser on Political Matters. The appropriate position was declared on the evening of August 29, 2013, Thursday, as the reaction to multiple comments that the President must show leadership and sense of responsibility by speaking up on Governor Danbaba Suntai.Mr. Ahmed Gulak said there were constitutional provisions for
resolving the impasse in the state. He also suggested that heads of organs and institutions of
government in Taraba State ought to invoke relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to resolve the crisis.

“The President should not be dragged into the problem in Taraba State. There are constitutional provisions for how things should be done in all the states of the federation, Taraba inclusive.“The constitution recognises all organs of government in Taraba State and these organs or institutions of government are headed by such people as the Acting Governor of the state, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and the Chief Judge of the state all of whom should find ways of resolving the political problems in the state.

“President Goodluck Jonathan is the President of Nigeria, not the President of Taraba State. So, the President should not be dragged into what is going on in Taraba State”, Ahmed Gulak stated.
