Transfer news: Frank Lampard's Manchester City loan spell could be extended

Frank Lampard's loan spell with Manchester City could be extended into February next year, according to Sky sources.

The 36-year-old former Chelsea midfielder, who joined upcoming MLS franchise New York City on a two-year deal in July, signed a six-month deal at the Etihad on August 6.

However, Sky Sports understands Lampard's loan could be stretched as City boss Manuel Pellegrini seeks cover for Ivory Coast skipper Yaya Toure, who is likely to be on duty at the Africa Cup of Nations until February 8.

New York City FC: Recruited Lampard in July

New York City will begin pre-season training early in the New Year but Lampard, who scored City's equaliser against Chelsea at the weekend, is likely to be up to full fitness having been involved regularly, injury permitting, for the Premier League champions.

Any extension in his loan deal would also see Lampard available for the 'return' against Jose Mourinho's side at Stamford Bridge on January 31.

Earlier this month, Lampard called time on his international career after scoring 29 goals in 106 appearances for his country.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's Capital One Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday, Pellegrini said: "I can't answer you about that (Lampard) at this moment.

Manuel Pellegrini has refuted any suggestions that Manchester City would sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley in the January transfer window.

"Frank will stay with us till January because before January, he will have nothing to do in the United States because they are not working.

"In January, we will see what happens here and then we will make a decision, but not probably at this moment."

Asked if there was any truth in reports linking him with Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, Pellegrini said: "I think for the moment I will tell you the same answer that every time I have the same question I give the same answer... I don't talk about rumours.

"We are not trying to bring anyone to our squad at this moment. I repeat once again that we have an important restriction on money and on the amount of players that we can have in our squad so really I don't know where the news comes from."

CONTROVERSIAL self-proclaimed Kenyan socialite Stacy Brianar Brown aka Pendo, has admitted to have had sex with Nigerian singer Davido. Pendo shot to fame after allegedly been caught pants down with gospel singer Willy Paul in 2012.
The rumours about the pair's sensual escapades surfaced after the Aye hit-singer visited the country in July last year. It was rumoured that Pendo had spent a night with the superstar at his hotel room in Nairobi after his performance at the inaugural edition of Nigerian-themed Boombata festival.
On Saturday, during an interview with a local TV magazine show she said, "The sexual rumour between me and Davido is the most scandalous thing I've ever heard about myself. However, according to me, it was all true," she said.
During the interview, Pendo referred to singer Jaguar as the most trustworthy person she has ever worked with, saying that "if an opportunity presents itself, I would work with him again." She was featured in Jaguar's video for the song Kioo. She added that apart from appearing in clubs and getting paid, she is working on establishing her own perfume label dubbed 'Pendo' and also on a lifestyle TV show - which is expected to hit the local screens soon.

Son Emerson Spencer Stone arrived in Los Angeles, weighing in at 7 lbs., 11 oz., Stone’s rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“Both Lindsay and Emerson are doing well,” the rep says in a statement. “Curtis is officially the happiest man in the world!” Stone, 38, announced that he and Price, 37, were expecting a sibling for 2½-year-old son Hudson during a May appearance on The Queen Latifah Show.

“My beautiful wife is pregnant again with my second baby!” he told the cheering crowd.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter agree to run next presidential election

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has confirmed he will run for a fifth term
in next year's elections.
The Swiss, who has headed the footballing body since 1998, is expected
to gain re-election following Uefa chief Michel Platini's decision not
to stand.

"I would make an official declaration definitely in September now when
we have the executive committee," Blatter told the Soccerex convention
by way of video interview. "I will inform the executive committee.
It's a question of respect also to say then to the football family,
'Yes I will be ready. I will be a candidate.'"
He continued: "You see a mission is never finished, and my mission is
not finished. And I have told the Fifa Congress, I have told the
congresses of the confederations.
Then I got through the last congress in Sao Paulo not only the
impression but the support of the majority, a huge majority of
national associations asking 'Please go on, be our president also in
future.'"
Blatter will formalise his candidacy when the Fifa executive committee
meets in Zurich on September 25-26.
Platini announced last month he would not pursue the Fifa presidency
contrary to earlier speculation he may challenge Blatter for the top
administrative job.

Welbeck sale shows Man Utd have 'lost their way', says Phelan

Danny Welbeck has moved to Premier League rivals Arsenal, but United have splashed the cash by sealing deals for Dutch utility player Daley Blind and Colombia striker Falcao, who has joined on a season-long loan.

United, yet to win in the Premier League under new manager Louis Van Gaal and with no European football at Old Trafford, have spent big in a bid to quickly get back on track following their seventh place finish last season.

Van Gaal's summer spending spree surpassed £150m, with a British transfer record of £59.7m paid to lure Di Maria from Real Madrid. United also signed Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rojo.

Phelan, who was Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant, suggested it showed a lack of faith in United's youth system, renowned in the past for its production line of world- class talent like David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

"Interesting how things have changed at Manchester United now. A good young kid (Welbeck) coming through - part of the academy system - and they've finally decided now that might not be the way to go so they've moved him on," Phelan told BBC Radio 5 Live on Tuesday.

"Obviously there is more and more money now in the game, looking further and further afield for players but probably they have lost the way of Manchester United a little bit in the fact that now rather than produce it may be the case where they're buying in.

"One of the issues of the Premier League at the moment, and with English football at the moment, is getting them on to the football field, promoting them that way and waiting for those opportunities, providing the time and that hasn't happened."

Phelan said United's big spending now reflected a philosophy of wanting instant success under Van Gaal after the former champions stagnated under Ferguson's successor David Moyes.

"It's success now, and not later. In Danny's case. He's had a good run at it, he's come through the system...there's other kids there now in the system who will hopefully get a chance but there's been a lot of cash splashed out in the transfer window and I'm sure that will only get worse."

Villa wait on Cleverley news

The club made a u-turn on Monday to sign the Manchester United midfielder on loan but it is yet to be rubber-stamped by the Premier League.

Villa had initially pulled the plug on a permanent deal for Cleverley due to wage demands.

He was also believed to favour a switch to Everton, but the Toffees failed to strike a deal with United on deadline day.

That prompted Villa to reignite a move for the 25-year-old and they are waiting to see if they managed to complete it in time.

Villa had agreed a fee of around £8m with United for Cleverley but called the deal off on Monday after talks reached a deadlock.

Boss Paul Lambert has been looking to beef up his midfield despite adding Carlos Sanchez, Joe Cole and Kieran Richardson over the summer.

He also sold Karim El Ahmadi back to Feyenoord and loaned Aleksandar Tonev to Celtic.

Cleverley looks to have little future at Old Trafford with boss Louis van Gaal making him available and Hull were also interested before moving for Newcastle's Hatem Ben Arfa.

The England international has made 79 appearances for United, the last coming in their 1-1 draw at Sunderland in August.

Impeachment: I will return to my seat – Nyako

ABUJA — Forty days after being removed from office, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd) has expressed hope that he will return to his post since his traducers did not follow the laid down procedure in ousting him.

Nyako, who has already filed an appeal at the Appeal Court against his impeachment, said there were justifiable reasons to prove that he was unjustly sent packing from his office by his opponents, who breached all the rules all in their desperate bid to get him out.
Nyako in a statement made available to Vanguard in Abuja yesterday, by his media adviser, Mr. Sajoh Ahmed, said he was confident that the court would return him to office since the process leading to his forceful and undemocratic sack was illegal.
The former governor said he was optimistic the Nigerian judiciary, which is blessed with men of integrity and honour, would not find it difficult to restore him to his position given the gamut of evidence that his opponents violated all the provisions of the law in edging him out for political reasons.
He said he was confident that since the judiciary had in the past upturned the removal of governors Joshua Dariye of Plateau, Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo and Peter Obi of Anambra, it would not be difficult for him to be restored since he was forced out of office by desperate elements.
While remaining upbeat about his return to office, Nyako urged his supporters in the state to embrace the current reality and prepare for the October 15 by-election, which he believes would be a repeat of the case in Anambra State when Andy Uba assumed office after winning an election, only to vacate office after 16 days when the courts returned Peter Obi.
I can't support PDP
Nyako also vowed to remain within the APC and support only APC candidates in all elections at all levels and at all times.
He said his faith in the APC was bolstered by the fact that the party has proved to be truly democratic and progressive by the manner it has handed over its nomination process to the people at the grassroots as opposed to those who hand over the process to some unknown political godfathers in Abuja or the state capitals.
The former governor denied claims that he was supporting a certain PDP governorship aspirant for the forthcoming by-election, saying that his support remains with the APC at all times.
He said: "Anyone who supports a PDP candidate in the state has done so in exercise of his or her democratic rights as citizens but not as a result of a directive from Admiral Nyako or in support of his political position.
"This clarification is necessary in order to debunk the rumour being peddled by some mischief makers in Adamawa State."

Mark blocks 11 PDP members from defecting to APC

ABUJA (AFP) - Senate President, David Mark, on Tuesday blocked 11 PDP
lawmakers from defecting, saying their break from the ruling party to
the main opposition would not go through until a court challenge was
resolved.

Mark, a heavyweight in President Goodluck Jonathan's Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), has been lobbying the group to reverse its
decision to defect announced in a letter on January 29.

Jonathan has suffered a string of recent political blows, including a
mass defection of lower house lawmakers to the All Progressives
Congress (APC) that stripped its parliamentary majority.

The PDP has challenged the Senate defections in a federal court by
seeking to have the seats declared vacant on the grounds that
party-switches violate the will of voters.

"The matter is in court and therefore we can make no reference to it,"
Mark said, interrupting one of the would-be defectors, who sought to
formally cross the floor.

The rest of the group then stood to have their defection officially
recognised but were shouted down by Mark.

If the defections are allowed to go through, they will cut the PDP's
majority in the 109-seat Senate by 26 seats, with the PDP down from 73
to 62 and the APC up from 33 to 44.

Analysts say Jonathan's dwindling support is tied to elections
scheduled for February next year.

The president has come under mounting pressure from within his own
party not to run and instead throw his support behind a Muslim
candidate from the north.

Jonathan, who stepped up from vice-president to be acting head of
state when former president Umaru Yar'Adua fell ill and later died in
2010, is a southern Christian.

He is also alleged to have promised to serve only one, four-year term
after winning a popular mandate at the last elections in 2011.

All but two of the 11 senators seeking to defect are northern Muslims.

The upper house is a powerful institution in Nigeria, as all bills
require approval from senators before entering into law and senators
can themselves propose legislation.
